Why do you need bubble lined or padded envelopes for your apparel products?
Contrary to the norm, this is actually one of the most common questions I ask people on the phone or email. I probably ask this question at least once a week and no one has given me a good answer yet.
We're often asked for padded, padded, or bubble-lined mailing envelopes for shipping everything from t-shirts to underwear. In fact, if the exterior of the mailing envelope is strong and reliable, the layer of cushioning material will only add to the cost. It's even worse for envelopes with paper padding and padding. Padded mailers also add a lot of shipping weight.
Some misconceptions I've heard include:
Padded packaging provides protection
In fact, shock absorption isn't really necessary unless your clothing has something fragile that could break (like rhinestones). Thin packages and mailing envelopes may end up under larger, heavier boxes during shipping, but this usually does not damage the garment being shipped.
Padded packaging provides moisture protection
Some shippers believe that the inner lining of the padding, especially the plastic bubbles, creates an additional moisture barrier. Technically, it does, but as I usually tell people, even corrugated boxes and paper mailers provide all the water resistance most weather delivery scenarios need.
Padded packaging saves time
I imagine that pre-lined envelopes with cushioning material do save time and labor compared to boxes with loose void fill products like packed peanuts or envelopes that wrap products in bubble or bubble wrap. However, this is no faster than no cushioning, and when you're shipping garments, you don't usually need cushioning.
Q: What is the best solution for e-commerce packaging?
Answer: It doesn't matter which packaging product is best for you, the products you're shipping, and your customers.
